The Bliss of Mrs. Blossom: Oddball, primordial comedy with delightful behaviors. Spouse of brassiere producer keeps a lover in their attic for 5 years. The movie weighs down toward the end, although for the most part a pleasure. Cast includes Shirley Mac Laine, Richard Attenborough, James Booth, Freddie Jones, Bob Monkhouse, and John Cleese. Rising Sun: John Connor and Web Smith are sent to investigate a murder at a Japanese corporate building. The murder investigation becomes very complex and intriguing immediately. Nothing is what it seems in this murder mystery.
Sphinx: Harried Egyptologist Lesley-Anne Down constantly avoids death as she looks for a mysterious tomb. Not much to be desired here. Cast includes Lesley-Anne Down, Blunt Langella, Maurice Ronet, John Gielgud, and Martin Benson. (117 minutes, 1981)
Southern Comfort: Macho National Guardsmen pity Cajuns in the Louisiana marsh, much to their remorse. Survivalof-the-fittest spun wool is an intellectually messed, Grade B Deliverance, in spite of its crisp direction. Cast includes Keith Carradine, Powers Boothe, Fred Ward, Franklyn Seales, T. K. Carter, Lewis Smith, Les Lannom, Peter Wolf, and Brian James. (106 minutes, 1981)
Mamma Mia: Sophie is about to get married. Her single mom has invited her two best lifelong friends to the wedding. Sophie has invited three men from her mothers past, hoping to find her father, and have him walk her down the aisle. Old romances are reborn during the chaotic day before the wedding.
