Shadow-lands: Soaking up story of British author C. S. Lewis the Lion, The Sorcerer and the Closet whose content if firm life as an Oxford don in the 1950s is rattled by his meeting with a forthright American poet. Knowledgeable and moving, with Hopkins in summit form and Winger his match; the aiding performers are excellent. This was filmed on location at Oxford. Lease A Cop: Chicago cop Reynolds is delayed after his botched hotel medication bust leaves half twelve lifeless. An eyewitness hooker helps him track down the bullet-happy slaughterers. Burt appears strained but is eager to work with the hooker. Cast includes Burt Reynolds, Liza Minnelli, James Remar, Richard Masur, Dionne Warwick, Bemie Casey, Robby Benson, and Michael Rooker. Just a Gigolo: Extremely fascinating cast is chief enchantment of odd melodrama featuring Bowie as Prussian battle vet who floats from job to job in Berlin before’ ultimately finding his real hailing. Dietrich, in her last film appearance, pops in long enough to croak the .title melody; Rome’s vigorous performance gives lift to choppy film that probably made more sense in primordial 147 Cast includes rendition discharged in Europe. After Midnight: 4 college girls take turns relating the scariest tale they know in this weak and unsurprising terror anthology with a high bloodshed quotient. Cast includes Jillian McWhirter, Pamela Segall, Ramy Zade, Marc McClure, Marg Helgenberger, and Billy Ray Sharkey. (90 minutes, 1989)

So Evil My Love: (1948) 109 A phenomenal expression of corruption. The villain Milland drags blameless Todd into larceny at cost of Fitzgerald. Cast includes Ray Milland, Ann Todd, Geraldine Fitzgerald, Leo G. Carroll, Raymond Huntley, Martita Seek, and Hugh Griffith. (109 minutes, 1948)

Far and Away: Scrappy, mud-meager Irish occupant farmer hooks up, in doubtful style, with the comparably feisty baby girl of a prosperous landowner, and together they cruise for America to seek their final fate in the 1893 Oklahoma land hurry. Superlative automobile for Tom and Nicole, who are both attractive and involving; complication is a drastic absence of tale to fill the eases between quarrel scenes. Cast includes Tom Cruise, Nicole Kidman, Thomas Gibson, Robert Prosky, Barbara Babcock, Cohn Meaney, and Rance Howard. (140 minutes, 1992)

Everest: Astonishing images of climbing Mount Everest. An IMAX crew ascends the peak in May of 1996. The IMAX team succeeded, but eight climbers from other teams died. The IMAX team assisted in rescues before finishing their ascent.

Dan in Real Life: Friendly comedy-drama of newspaper columnist Dan (Carell), the doting although harried single dad of 3 baby girls. While the family heads off to the Northeast for a holy day at his parents’ seaside home, this widowed dad impulsively meets somebody (Binoche) who appears to be exact for him. The family reunion is replete with family member rivalries, secrets, and resentments. This film manages to ascend above recognizable sitcom level to be an amusing take on middle-aged affairs of the heart. Cast includes Steve Carell, Juliette Binoche, Dane Chef, Dianne West, John Mahoney, Alison Pill, Emily Obtuse, Amy Ryan, Norbert Leo Butz, and Jessica Hecht. (98 minutes, 2007)
