Small is more flexible. Use the fact that only you take the decisions to your advantage. Your able to react to the latest breaking news before anyone else and notice changes in customer trends. Then just get that information published on your blog posts before the bigger competitors do.
Devise a Link Strategy. Who would want to link to your business website? Probably noone. So create an interesting blog as part of your website strategy and fill it full of your sectors information. Making your site much more attractive to other webmasters to link to your website. Provide buyer information and reviews plus other industry news from your sector.
If your not already then get your business listed in the local search area of the search engines. Just do a search in them and add your site to the local business listings. You can do this free of charge. You may also want to get listed in other industry relevant directory websites.
Use PR sites. If you have new information about your industry or company changes then issue a press releases. check out who is linking to your competitors using tools like Yahoo Site Explorer, then ask the same sites to link to you. Make yourself a list of the high listed sites in your industry sector, and email them asking if they will link to your website.
Get someone to analyse your website to make sure the seo factors are fully enabled. Investigate your competitors and look at what they are doing to rank. Then just use the information given and begin building links to your website. The customers will then follow just as night follows day.
