When web surfers need to find information quickly and do not know the exact address of the website, they would head to their favorite search engine (usually Google) and type what they are looking for. Depending on their search phrase, hundreds to millions of results can show up with the first 10 found on the same page. These 10 results are the sites that are most relevant to the keyword phrase.
After your site is finished you want to get the site in the search engines. Google is #1, so that’s where your focus should be. Start by submitting your site to the Google submission page, your site will appear in about a month.
To get heavy trafic, you’ve got to have your site optimized. Keywords are how you do this. It’s easy to initially get the right keywords, but you next want to think like your surfer and use the terms and phrases they’d use.
To succeed, you’ve got to think like other people. What will they put in the search box? Millions of people who do searches have their own way of picking the keywords and phrases. Some keywords and phrases are popular and very competitive. For these, it’ll take alot of time and work.
List as many keyword phrases as you think of and sprinkle them across other pages so that other areas of your website get indexed in a different way. Be careful not to overdo this step and put too many keywords or else your content may not make sense and push visitors away.
You can test out which words might work best for you by taking the top 10 results and compare their keywords to the ones you want to use. If they came up, you can too. Review the sites content as well. Getting the right keywords is work, but you only do it one time and it pays off.
If you want to take it to the next leve, ask your friends what they look for when they are looking for info on your subject. There are even tools like the Google Keyword Tool, that can be found by doing a google search for it.
Ofter you’ve got everything you want for keywords, you simply have to be patient and see how Google will rank you. Type your keywords into Google to see what number they’ve given you for your ranking. You can get to the top of google faster if you use Google Adwords.
